SHEconomy (screams into the void)

Great post. Legit worried about the number of medically uneducated women on Facebook pushing peptides. I am occasionally guilty of putting experimental stuff in my body (eg NMN) but am giving peptides the hard swerve!

Cheryl Wischhover's avatar

We all do stuff. I can’t tell you all the stupid skincare/anti-aging stuff I have wasted money on! I am definitely worried about how some doctors are legitimizing peptides

Molly Dickens, PhD's avatar

Ugh. I just cannot with the peptide stuff so THANK YOU for this. Honestly, my first thought is not even on the shady side of compounding and not have any human research for safety. It’s more about the basics of human physiology. The body knows how to regulate itself. It know’s how to counterbalance (or attempt a counterbalance). Yes, if you give yourself an insane dose of insulin, yes, you’ll die. But if you give yourself *any* dose of insulin that your body doesn’t need, a whole lot of other things will change in an attempt to get back to homeostasis. But we know how the body responds to insulin.

With peptides, we have no idea what elements of alllllllllll the physiological processes in our body we’re actually fcking with. Right?!

Cheryl Wischhover's avatar

You’re totally right about the basic physiology part! It’s a great point, and part of the problem is that a lot of people don’t understand how their own bodies work

This is such valuable info, Cheryl. THANK YOU for asking the right questions!

Cheryl Wischhover's avatar

Thank you so much, Juliet! Be careful out there

Karen Flood's avatar

Thank you for this! I’m so glad you pushed back and are publicizing this.

Cheryl Wischhover's avatar

Thank you for the support, Karen!

I WISH I’d been a fly on the wall. I’m so glad you’ve written about this - and seen that Guardian video - eeeshk I fear we are down the rabbit hole here, and people are going to have to die before we get out of it.

I also hate this gray “wellness” category, and there will be no peptides without objective data for this former pharma exec. Much respect for asking the questions that should be asked, and not just attending the meeting and writing a puff piece. (And don’t get me going about “wellness IVs :|| ).

Vaginal

Red light device????

Cheryl Wischhover's avatar

I really dropped that bomb and then ran away, didn’t I

Lindy Segal's avatar

All comes back to the SHEconomy doesn’t it??? (Although to your earlier point, in this case there are a lot of gym bros partaking and that doesn’t make me feel BETTER by any means)

Cheryl Wischhover's avatar

Yeppp the SHEconomy supports non-evidence-based wellness hacks

Alexis Barad-Cutler's avatar

this is frightening. Thank you for speaking out about what you heard at the conference! And for speaking up to the doctors.

Cheryl Wischhover's avatar

I hate it all so much

Here for the Black Honey-aissance, not here for SHEconomy

Absolutely same

Also! SHECONOMY!! Gtfo

Cheryl Wischhover's avatar

Bless you for reading all the way to the end

Are you kidding me? As if I’d leave a single Wischhover morsel behind. That would be blasphemy.

So you are the Gen X Jessica Defino - and goodness knows we could use more of you!!! :)

I have seen peptides in passing but thought they were more vitamins rather than injections. I do like Jennifer Aniston, but she looks weirdly different in that photo? Maybe it's the peptides? Thank you for reminding those of us out there who are barely keeping it together during peri-menopause (my brain fog is insane right now and I feel very disassociated from a lot of daily things which I hate because I am not like that at all!) that these are not needs and also not as clean cut as celebs and 'medics' would have us believe.

Cheryl Wischhover's avatar

Thank you for your kind words!!!! As far as Jen, I think it’s her eyebrows. I have a draft I started months ago about how brows can change your entire face

Valerie Monroe's avatar

Love this. Love you. Recommending you (if I haven't already). x

Cheryl Wischhover's avatar

Ahh thank you SO much!!!!

Anne Lucchesi's avatar

Thank you for the excellent article, I am starting to see peptides being pushed more and more and it's so alarming. Where is the research?!

Cheryl Wischhover's avatar

It costs money and they are already out there so I am concerned we will never get it

SHEconomy should only ever refer to ME, and my own personal finances!

Cheryl, thank you for sharing this, and also for speaking out and challenging those yes-people! It is a scary world when money means more than people's safety and health. (It honestly feels more and more like "Idiocracy" every day, sigh).

Thanks for keeping us informed. You are the most rockin' writer out there!

Cheryl Wischhover's avatar

Ahahahahahhahaha SHEconomy is your thrifting budget now. Thank you for the kind words, as always. And yes too many idiots trying to take my money out there
